There is no doubt that one sure way to improve self-confidence is to model. Young ladies who have high
self-confidence have a strong sense of assurance and belief in themselves.
They exude calmness, composure and self-awareness, and that is because they have formed a set of habits that have become part of who they are and how they live their lives.
Here at Out of Africa Models we try and teach the girls positive self talk. We make sure that they move away from doubting their abilities or themselves.

We focus on their strengths. Although we cover all aspects of modelling, from Photographic Modeling to Life style and Commercial, we try and build on the model’s positives. Standing in front of a camera takes a lot of courage and this is something we try and build on with every lesson.
Teaching our models that there is beauty in our differences is very important. Focusing on only comparing ourselves to our own progress instead of others helps to enforce growth in modeling skills.
Setting goals and planning their futures in modeling
by setting personal goals and planning how to best utilize potential modeling skills in everyday life, is something we encourage whilst still having fun with their modeling journeys.

Regardless of the career path chosen, skills attained through modeling will make an impressive addition to anybody’s CV. It will demonstrate to employers that they are adaptable, confident, and competent in achieving their goals in life. Employers and college interviewers are invariably impressed with the overall skills attained through modeling.
For those with hopes and dreams of entering the professional model industry….the training and portfolio developed with Out of Africa Models will
be invaluable.

The initial entrance level is determined by age and a model’s existing portfolio, experience and entrance interview. Individual remedial lessons can be arranged if required. Each level requires a satisfactory attendance of 6 shoots.
Modeling is recognized as an extracurricular activity in a number of schools.
Each level assumes differing degrees of skill and experience in typical modeling poses & theme interpretation as well as understanding the basics of photography, composition, camera operation & lighting.

Attendance of six sessions is generally required to advance levels within an age group.
Models joining in older levels are given accelerated training in the
skills taught at younger levels. This may require additional sessions.

This is our signature shoot and has drawn aclaim from many countries. Girls get to imagine themselves in the African bush and dress up with authentic new and antique African artifacts.
Themed shoots
Acting and feeling important is one way of showing the models the correct way of portraying their images. We ensure this by picking themes and characters for the models to play and we build our lessons around these themes.
The models are asked to research their roles, contribute with appropriate dress up and acting the part on the day of the shoot.
African

We don’t promote fashion/ ramp modelling however there are times when dressing as a ball gown belle allows the girls to dream and act out a glamorous role.

Our girls were given the opportunity to freestyle against the imposing back ground of railways and coaches. Most of the day the girls had to pose themselves against the hot African sun.
RailRoad

Many of our young models play sport for fun and some represent their schools and provinces. Our sports theme promotes the athletics side of our model’s personality.
Sports

Many of our models also do dance and ballet and this is a chance to strike that perfect pose. Even those not into dance or ballet had the opportunity to dress up and act the part.
Ballet

We were very kindly loaned two huge superbikes for use in our studio. The shoot was so popular it spread over two days.Interacting with the products is a critical aspect in photographic modelling and our girls learnt how to
bend themselves with the bikes and promote the bike
and themselves.
Motor Bikes

Using a combination of plants and photoshop, we ended up with a super tropical shoot where our girls even suprised themselves.

Hanging from the rafters, our brave girls have fun swinging and posing.

Our potetial models also learn the effects of lighting and how they can best interact with available light.
The models learn f-stops and depth of field, of which helps the photographer get the best out of thier poses.
Models will learn how to use the same pose but get different results depending on how they they present themselves to the light and background used.
Black and white

Some photo shoots are specifically designed for high-end edits. Some shots just beg for Photoshop due to the particular pose on the attitude of the model.

We try to alternate outside (location) shooys with studio, enabling the models to put into practice what they learn in the studio shoots
Dassie Trail

Here the mums support is put to the test along with our models ability to pose in the extreme. A fun shoot that also taught valuable skills.
Rag Dolls

From stallions to shetlands to donkeys.
We also shoot in tack rooms and hay lofts.

All girls love unicorns and with the assistance of a friendly farm owner Nikki – Horses were provided to help the girls live their unicorn dreams.

There are various avenues for parents to provide support to their daughters.
For the studio shoots, Parents are welcome to avail themselves of our coffee bar and providing they don’t interfere or distract their daughter they are welcome to watch actual shoots.
For location shoots many parents treat it as an opportunity for a picnic.
Parental Support
Whilst we always try to contain costs, Parents are expected to help their daughters imagination by adhering to the individual shoot dress code and where applicable to the costume theme.
Outfits
We maintain a group WhatsApp to keep parents up to date on events and also for parents to communicate with each other.
Communication
Our young models take great pleasure in showing mums & family how to pose.
